The course of my immigration application

Time flies like an arrow. I have been in Canada for almost 9 years. A few days ago, I chatted with one of my client, a new immigrant and through our talk, he made me think of the course of our immigration application.

Actually our immigration application is not long, only 8 months, however it was a long story, let me tell you in detail!

My wife had a classmate of University who worked in a foreign company. One day in 2000 she asked my wife, “I heard many people, who have master degree applied for independed immigration, then they succeeded, your husband has a master degree, why you don’t ask him to apply?” “Immigrate, why?” I thought in my heart, maybe in her eyes we don’t live well, otherwise how come she suggested us to immigrate to Canada. I felt uncomfortable more or less. However, I paid more attention to the word “immigration.” since then.

At that moment I was studying MBA in UIBE. one day I noticed one stall who gave away free information for how to apply for independed immigration. I found an agency who just charged us 3,500 USA dollars. And we could pay by 3 steps. I thought The price is reasonable. What’s more, if it isn’t successful, we could get all the money back. However, at that moment, I was a little bit hesitant. And I asked my wife, “Do you want to immigrate to Canada?” My wife said, ” Now we can just apply, we don’t know whether we succeed or not. Even if we succeed, if we don’t want to go, we still can choose to stay here, right?” Ok, I didn’t think too much, actually I am a person who enjoys “current” situation, maybe it is time for us to change.

Things went so smoothly. Maybe because My condition was good: I was an engineer, and at that time I was the backbone in my exploring department, and I was an editor in Coal science newspaper in my institute. And what’s more I got lots of rewards. Maybe because of those I didn’t receive any interviews or tests for the application at all. Later on we were told we had double exemptions. However; one day My chief told me like this.

“Today I got one phone; one person called me and asked me if I wrote a reference for you. I said no. Did you do something behind me?” I was shocked at that moment. “

It was over.” A very bad feeling went through my mind. Later on I told my chief the truth.

Actually I wrote this reference letter all by my self. The content was completely true. The only thing I doesn’t want anybody to know it before I succeeded to get the visa, so I signed in my chief’s name and gave the chief’s phone number. I couldn’t imagine how come they would call and check or I thought if they check; they would just check the content to see whether the content was true or not.

After home, I phoned the agency. The staff said, “It is over. Foreigners make much of credits. Now you don’t have any wish. ” I suggested, ” How about writing a letter to explain?” “No use, 99.999…% no hope.” Hearing this, I felt so sad and I hate what I did! But I didn’t give up. I said to myself, ” even though only 0.0000000…1% wish, I will give a try, Maybe that 1 belongs to me.” And my wife suggested me to give a try as well. “Ok, since it is like this, we have no choice.”

Then I wrote two letters, one explained why I did that way-because the situation in China, the Chinese didn’t want The current company to know before he or she succeeds in finding another job or other goals, meanwhile, I apologized sincerely to the officer for what I did. The other one is another reference letter, mentioned specially my behaviour (including saying sorry to my chief and the chief gave lot of good comments) in the letter and my achievements, this time I asked my chief to read and signed by the chief himself this time. BTW, I had a very good relationship with my chief. Then I sent the two letters at the same time.

Guess what; Three weeks later, we received the letter for check up. How excited. After not long, we received the landed paper.

I don’t know if there is other case like ours, anyway we think we are very lucky even though the course is not so smoothly. We are very satisfied with what we got at that moment.
